About Alex Smith:
Alex Smith, a native of East Tennessee, lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. He honed his skill at Carson-Newman University where he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2010, and at The New York Academy of Art, completing his Master of Fine Arts in 2015. In between, he worked at his studio in Knoxville’s Emporium and studied at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Idaho studio of Scott Christensen. Smith was the featured artist at Knoxville’s 2013 Dogwood Arts Festival and has presented his work at a variety of private galleries and juried exhibitions in cities ranging from Knoxville to New York. In 2015, he was awarded an Artist’s Teaching Residency at the Altos de Chavon School of Art and Design in The Dominican Republic. Whether giving traditional landscapes a contemporary edge or finding beauty in the grit of the city, his passion continues to be the intricate detail, light, and color of realism.
